Bilco's specialty tong die system, the "Friction Grip", is the industry's pioneer in providing a solution to the costly problem of die marks on chrome and high alloy tubulars.

 

 

The Friction Grip is the Industry's first power tong to use direct hydraulic die clamping on a rotating tong head. The dies are attached and clamped before rotation of the tong head. The Friction Grip then surrounds the pipe with an evenly distributed friction area. When this even distribution of pressure is coupled with an increased contact area, maximum torque is easily achieved without damage or deformity to the pipe.

The Friction Grip's soft, smooth (no teeth) dies are manufactured from aluminum which will not damage or deform pipe.

Since penetration of the tube is on longer necessary, it is now possible to obtain multiple runs and repeated use from chrome alloy tubulars.

The Friction Grip can accommodate the torques required for tubulars from 2 1/16" to 7 5/8". Modifications are available upon request with advance notice.
